Wednesday marks a milestone birthday for the NHL’s greatest player ever.
Wayne Gretzky turns 50 years old. The former Oiler, King, Blue, and Ranger scored 894 goals during his record-setting career. He’s the all-time leader in goals, assists, and points, and it’s not likely we’ll see any of these records broken again.
After his playing career ended, Gretzky moved on to a coaching stint with the Phoenix Coyotes, which led to a falling-out of sorts with the league.
To mark his 50th birthday, here is a look back at a classic Gretzky moment from the 1981-82 season, when he obliterated the NHL single-season goals record by picking up 50 in just 39 games, and 92 for the season.
